The Close – Bughouse

A bughouse has now been installed in The Close with the aid of Pitton Guides who collected materials to be put into the structure.

Bughouses are great for increasing biodiversity.  They benefit lots of different types of invertebrates such as ladybirds, bees, spiders and woodlice. They are able to overwinter, or breed or spend their lives in the bug hotel.  It is a safe space to shelter, lay their eggs, raise their young, and seek refuge from predators.

Our shelter is made of wooden pallets and contains a number of things which provide an ideal habitat for the inhabitants including; old bricks. Pine cones, sticks, rotting wood, rolled up paper and old carpet.

Stop and look when you are next passing, but please don’t poke around.  It is home to many insects.
