Native Bulb and Wildflower Planting

On a autumnal day at the end of October some trustees and volunteers gathered on The Close to do a bit of tidying up before the onset of the winter.

A few weeks earlier most of the long grass was topped with some areas of Knapp Weed left for the birds to feed on the seed through the winter.  To stop the grass enriching the soil there was a need to clear the cuttings and rake up and collect the fallen leaves from the surrounding trees.

As well as tidying up the area some preparation for 2025 was undertaken with native bulbs planted, these included daffodils, snowdrops, crocus and cyclamen and some Yellow Rattle seed was spread.

We look forward to seeing the emergence of these flowers in 2025 though expect it to be 2026 before some flower.
