Reseeding Working Party

Over recent weeks there has been a lot of work going on in the Community Orchard & Nature Reserve to create a wildflower rich biodiverse area.

During this year the grass has been lush pasture grass which has very few wildflowers, the aim is over time to replace this with a more biodiverse habitat.

The ground was prepared by Matthew with the aid of his small tractor and cultivator.

Thanks to a generous donation from Pitton Social Club we were able to purchase from Heritage Seeds 14kg of native wildflower seed harvested on the RSPB’s Winterbourne Down Reserve.

Willing volunteers braved the inclement weather to cast the seed by hand.

With the reseeding competed there was just time for Matthew to roll the area before the rain started to fall.

Now we patiently await to see what emerges in the spring.
